He had the whole of the party conference to set out his vision. He must think we are all sheep to swallow the statements he make, many of which directly contradict previous ones.
Mutley said it in brief and in truth, in M style, Elby: he's weird and he's frightening.
Why is the Labour movement putting up with it? If a weirdo frightener has got a handle on your institution, then change how you run things. It's the grass roots movement that has to stir itself to express no confidence in this regime. I'm sure his cadres are all present and correct at every CLP meeting, his MPs primed and threatened to put down any expressions whatever of discontent, but when the bottom layer (i.e. the majority) have nothing to lose and nothing can be threatened then they might as well keep up the background roar of dissent.
The real fear is that they can be threatened, they could be made aware of having something to lose;a lot of local government, quango, demutualised style banks and co-oppy things low level jobs are part of the regime fiefdom.
That's how authoritarian regimes have always enforced so presumably Brown's is no different. This regime is all over the universities as well. Carrots for the posh and clever, sticks for the masses.
