Real Racism

"The DNA database has become a national disgrace, stuffed with innocent children and a disproportionate number of black people.

"It is time it was limited to those who are guilty or under investigation for sexual or violent crime."
(Shami Chakrabarti, director of civil rights group Liberty)

'There are now 150,000 children aged 16 or under on the system, with another 334,000 aged between 16 and 18. In one case, the DNA of a seven-month-old girl was added. Children can be added to the register only with their parents' agreement' writes the Daily Mail; but only if the child is under ten is written consent needed. Some 50 under-tens are on the database.

Once a DNA profile has been uploaded onto the data base there are difficult and narrow routes to achieving its removal. It is expected that 10 million profiles will have been uploaded by 2011. Unpleasant and unethical experiments, without the DNA profile owners' permission having even been sought, are being carried out to determine the 'ethnic profile' of any particular DNA donor.

The Nuffield Council on Bioethics demand that only the profiles of convicted criminals be retained has got nowhere.

The only one that isn't already in place, verse by verse, is the upping of the number of days a person can be held without being produced in public. And that is going into the Queen's Speech - 55 days, so as not to reopen the controversy surrounding 90 was being put about.

Spyblog is scarier than ususal.

Very fine new blog design ND.

The state is always reluctant to stop collecting data/information about its citizens. Once that data is collated it can be used by any organ of the state. A great deal of the success of the Nazis in Germany was because of the legendary German keeping of records of everything.

Yes very scary: and still our persistent friend TB can protest Brown's good intentions and guardianship of our liberty

Glad you like our new banner: as you probably saw, it's the work of the increasingly ubiquitous Theo Spark

am now trying to come up with a suitable avatar

Look up the new "Common Assessment Framework" for young people. This will have many good effects but I see a potential for similar official abuse (and hacking).

Would you permit such an intrusive and impertinent assessment of your family to be conducted S? I read the form with increasing distaste at the begged questions, the questionable assumptions, the inappropriate assessment requirements.....

It was striking how poorly the general information had been written and punctuated. Individuals may write as they choose but there is a standard English that is used to avoid ambivalence and obscurity; it was not the form -drafter's to command.

So first the physical DNA is uploaded and then the social and cultural DNA. It used to be that children went to school but now they go youth control camp.

MtheB, this is a record of everything.

Lilith already has the best avatar ND . Perhaps one of the futuristi? Hard to resist Depero, say, uomini con i baffi, very capitalistic.
