There are some 5000 British troops doing not a lot, except for being desultorily rocketed, outside Basra airport. At the same time the troops being sent to Afghanistan are reported to be 'half trained'. The periods between active service are being cut so that even properly trained troops return to active duty again and again without respite.
Why are there still British troops in Iraq? Why are there still British troops in Germany?
And for the sheer horror of what is happening in Iraq as the country is talibanised and women are murdered, disfigured or, in the case of countless widows, left to starve to death together with their children as no public role or employment is now open to them, look at Informed Comment (on Links) if you can bear to read it.

A part time Defence Minister while the country is at war on two separate fronts says all we need to know about McBean and his cohorts.
On your other point, I recall reading somewhere or other that we cannot bring the troops home from Germany as there is now simply nowhere to put them all. Besides which, from a squaddy's point of view, life in Germany is far better than life in Catterick - let's face it!
Three soldiers injured yesterday from rocket attacks. They never say what injuries, but being hit by a rocket should do it for a decent life. And what for?
The rockets do little damage to the base, we are told. Well, tents just fall down if hit by rockets.
How long will the Labour regime go on risking the collapse of the on -the-ground negotiated cease fire and before the troops face a serious attack.
