Are you on the dnA List?

The dysfunctional Home Office, so famously found unfit for purpose under the current regime, has announced that Labour has no plans to introduce a universal compulsory or voluntary national DNA base.

That will be because it's well past the planning stage, it's up and running with more than 5%of the population trapped on an inappellable listing garnered, amongst other sources, from those merely accused of misdemeanour, never mind crimes.

It may be that Labour hasn't been able to lay its hands on the universe yet either.

Perhaps we will be tagged, like cattle. Indeed, the distinction between Man and the beasts of the field is under attack. How about the HFEA's decision, announced today, to authorise the crossbreeding of humans with animals? Why is a mere quango allowed to become the arbiter of what is morally acceptable? I can hardly believe this is real.

The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority is a Labour nest of vipers - the usual self important management consultants (that would be the chairwoman who doubtless refers to herself as a person but is probably a cow from the photo provided), accountants of appropriate ethnic diversity, controlling and controlled academics from minor universities specialising in legal and philosophical ethical issues (they would call them issues wouldn't they), people's wives, masquerading as capable of making a contribution because they've had ivf, under their own names, people in middle age who have recently completed MAs in spurious legalish areas, a bishop of the Church of England (!)and assorted obstetricians and fertility doctors, some heading up private fertility clinics, that would be the 'stakeholders' representative I suppose.

An example of an entity set up for one purpose, deemd patently good, with inappropriately defined powers, being used to do something monstrous, and I choose the word monstrous with care. The only hope is a determined intervention by the law lords should this 'authorisation' be brought to even the very edges of their attention.

There is confirmation in the papers that the DNA data base is growing at the rate of 30,000 additional listings a month.

I don't quite know why, but Mary Warnock springs to mind.

She chaired the 1984 committee on in vitro fertilization and defined an embryo as being such 14 days after conception rather than at conception, which permitted the research that goes on on embryos, as they aren't, if you see what I mean.

On the cow eggs being emptied and then filled with human genetic material which is then experimented on after being turned into not- an- embryo by artificial means, words have finally let me down S.

The main beneficiary researcher was reported to say that if one had alzheimers one would support this research technique. Anyone with alzheimers isn't best equipped to be choosing such procedures and research practices I would imagine.

I told my wife I had an atavistic urge to run through their corridors with fire and sword. They seem determined to unequivocally commit abominations. Is it like a child misbehaving in the hope of being stopped and finally getting responsible attention?

Fire and sword S? Were your avi archangels?
There are histories and roots to this kind of inquiry.

It's the sleep of reason that generates monsters, not genetic research for the benefit of alzheimer sufferers (against whom HB scored a mean point).

Yes C, it was mean, I withdraw it. But I don't accept that such people as these are in full command either of what they are doing, or of the propriety of doing it at all.

Remember the outrageous practices that accompanied early research work on atomic science - the carelessness, the willful use of spurious authority over others, deliberately exposing men under orders to different levels of radiation, the avid desire to drop a bomb and look at what it did.

These people are not good enough - in every sense of the word 'good' - to attempt these self-delineated and delimited undertakings.
