Presidents-elect,since at least three presidencies ago, have stayed in beautiful and luxurious Blair House, close to the White House, in the days before the inauguration. President Bush and family, President and Mrs Clinton, and President George W. Bush and family all stayed there.
So why is the current President-elect and his family in a hotel, while Blair house is given over to a former Australian prime minister, defeated in the last Australian elections, in Washington to receive an honour for his part in sending Australian troops to the invasion of Iraq?

Bugs?
Is it 'cos da brother is black?
Or is it 'cos no relf-respectin' blood gonna stay in a fancy house named after the honky Blair?
Can't be bugs, S. Everyone's life is wholly open to scrutiny at any time, now. Might as well live in scrutinised luxury.
The all singing all dancing joy at President-elect Obama's win seems to have covered the obvious reserve that might greet him, as it does all new wielders of power, from the other side. This is an odd gesture, Idle, that Blair house was unavailable even though requested. It's not as if the request to stay by the President-elect and his family would be an unexpected intrusion into the diary.
The reports in the Australian papers noted that the other Blair, former UK prime minister, also due to receive the same medal, had refused the use of Blair house at this time.
You can say a lot of unkind things about Dubya, and most would be true. But he and Laura are kind and courteous and would not snub Obama and his scary wife.
Someone screwed up, I grant you, but it ain't George.
