I wonder what happens, precisely, if by May 10th the Prime Minister has not asked the Queen to issue a proclamation

Does she go ahead and issue one anyway on May 11?

I don't know the answer B. I cannot recall a parliament that has come this close to simply expiring; perhaps others can help?

And if the election were to be on 3 June by, shall we say default, there is a three week gap from 10 May filled by what, precisely?

You place too much hope in the next guy. I'm glad for your sake that you're in la bella Italia.

Rolf, I will be in London from April and I am going to bang on doors "..may we count on your support?", and stuff envelopes and put up posters and support political stalls on Saturdays and street markets and all that. I can't stamp and scream and scream until I'm sick without turning up and doing my bit.

Italians don't have GOTV problems. Almost everyone votes, in person because postal votes are not allowed, but then it's on Sunday and as you have to return to your place of residence, (bit like Joseph and Mary really) it's a great chance for a glorious lunch and seeing all the family.

Announcement from whom, L? Botogol's question stands.

Go easy on the confidence, everybody, we all know what follows hubris.

Have you noticed how low the poll gap is now? Single figures.

And with our skewed electoral system, that could leave Broon in charge. Even a hung parliament could leave Broon in charge, because the Fib Dims will certainly side with him in exchange for being flung a few cynical straws.

The fat lady has certainly not sung yet.

No general election has been called yet, Yacht.

So many MPs are standing down, well over a hundred, that it would be difficult, once this parliament expires, to have parliamentary democracy without an immediate general election. But a scenario in which this parliament expires on 10 May, Brown remains in office via membership of the Privy Council, and the Head of State simply lets things slide on the 'I never intervene' falsities which are reinforced by a 'we are in such times, such times as not to be times for a novice, I judge it best to continue in office and invite leading politicians of all parties to join us in this crisis for our country......'

The legal, or precedent-derived, or where power lies situation is not clear to me. Would that someone authoritative set it out. Like a constitutional court, which we have not got. And unfortunately a lot of barrack room lawyers are only too ready to step into the breach.

This is almost certainly what the little flurry of stories on the Queen taking advice on 'a hung parliament' situation was really about.

Hung parliament my foot - the discussion was about refusal to ask for a Dissolution and what is to be done on 11 May.

Brown is well understood to be a real menace, by absolutely everyone, in his insane self assertion and saviour of the world delusions.
