Reductio Ad Absurdum

It would have been nice to go out for a good lunch today, it being the wedding anniversary. But the entire morning has been taken up with money. All I want is for the money to sit quietly earning a bit more money, and to be there for me.

Instead, after all that advising, and re-organising, and recommending to countries and regions and industries and sectors and zones and economies of all shapes and sizes, we are reduced to buying gold bars (and growing our own tomatoes).

Thank you, ND.

I don't know Glyndebourne, but it sounds a wonderful thing to celebrate with.

It's been a glorious day, E-K, and thank you for your good wishes. As it's Wednesday and the lovely places to eat are closed on Wednesday evenings after the summer visitors have gone home, the celebratory dinner is tomorrow.

I was serious about the gold bars.

But you HAVE been to Glyndebourne, to see Monteverdi's Il Ritorno di Ulisse in Patria.

True, we were caught up in the traffic and did not get there until one minute after the beginning of the first act, so we heard the first half from outside.

But so did our friends, and the picnic in the interval was memorable, the second part divine, what with goddesses sitting on moons hanging from the ceiling.

How sad that you should not remember Glyndenbourne. Promise to take you there again.

"Reduced" to buying gold bars?

Au contraire, that is by far the most sensible thing you could do at present.

Just two things to remember:

1. Keep them at home somewhere, not in a bank or "safe" deposit

2. You should have done it years ago - when the One-Eyed Bandit was selling Britain's reserves, that would have been a good time.
