Off he goes to Paris, full of self pride and self delusion, and within hours Germany and Italy declare full 100% guarantees for all bank deposits in their respective countries. France had done it before he even got there.
How does he do it?

who notes that HMG already guarantees savings, which can be up to £6 million.
Doh.
Gordon is a moron,
Gordon is a moron.
HMG is run by Gordon Brown, who is operated by Peter Mandelson.
You feeling lucky, Elby?
Re your final question: There is a very good programme on Discovery Channel (I think) entitled "How it's made" which explains and shows in great detail how everyday items are made. The voice over begins with "How do they do it?"
Perhaps we should ask the producers to do a one-off on our Great Leader which might help throw some light into dark corners.
Mildly deranged, HG, mildly deranged, in a Peter Finch sort of way. Lucky? Yes - I think so, I have had a very fortunate life, and whilst my years of work, by dint of the fact that my ex and I sent all our four kids to Steiner schools (to protect their eternal souls), and by dint of the fact that when I left Pat I gave her the just-paid-off house, I have no assets whatsoever, and a pension pot that is shrinking by the day.
Lucky in love, though! And we'll be fine; L and I are both used to living on very little, and both have skills that are portable.
One of the more alarming phrases coming from our leader and his henchpersons
"We will do whatever it takes"
SO reassuring don't you think?
Thought he was made of snips and snails and puppy-dog tails, Nomad, but he seems to have less about him - an empty malignancy damaged by narrowness of vision and field of action. Sarkozy, Merkel and Berlusconi were running rings round him.
He'll have emptied every bank account in 'Britain' by this evening if he doesn't do as he was told on Saturday.
Unless he tells us to put our savings in the Post Office, HG....
I am stuffing mattress covers even as I type, L. Layer of lambswool, layer of capital, layer of lambswool... Should I add a sprinkle of nutmeg, like for lasagne?
As Sackerson noted, it's the return of capital, not the return on capital that is becoming important.
